STAB PROTECTION FOR BALLISTICS VESTS
In close cooperation with our customers, we develop and manufacture NIROPROTAC® stab protection inserts made of metal ring mesh for ballistic vests, providing additional protection against knives, blades, cuts and stab attacks.
Ballistic vests do not prevent penetration by knives, blades or pointed weapons. Especially for police, SWAT, correctional facilities and other law enforcement agencies, the combination of ballistic protection with additional stab and cut resistance is essential to reduce risks.

STAB PROTECTION INSERTS MADE FROM METAL RING MESH
Custom-made NIROPROTAC® ring mesh solutions increase stab and cut resistance of body armor systems while maintaining high wearing comfort and maximum flexibility.
These specially developed metal ring mesh systems are used in high-risk operations such as police, security services, personal protection and international law enforcement units.
Body armour systems combined with NIROPROTAC® offer:
CUSTOM INSERTS FOR BALLISTIC VESTS
NIROPROTAC® stab protection inserts are manufactured from welded stainless steel. Different designs allow individual solutions tailored to specific vest systems.
We support vest manufacturers throughout all project phases – from design and engineering to production and delivery.

BALLISTIC VESTS WITH ADDITIONAL STAB PROTECTION
Ballistic vests protect against projectiles from handguns and rifles and reduce the risk of severe injuries caused by impact.
However, they do not provide full protection against knives or sharp objects. Therefore, police and law enforcement units often require a combination of ballistic protection with additional stab and cut resistance. Cut and puncture protection solutions
As a specialist component manufacturer, we produce stab-resistant equipment and inserts made from stainless steel ring mesh.
COMPONENT MANUFACTURER FOR PROTECTIVE VESTS
NIROPROTAC® specializes in the development and production of stab protection inserts and components made of metal ring mesh for ballistic body armor and protective vests.
As a supplier for protection system manufacturers, we develop customized solutions based on customer requirements.
We manufacture:
- Stab protection inserts made of ring mesh
- Individual cuts and shapes
- Components based on DXF files or samples
Our components are integrated into existing protection systems and help to significantly improve stab and cut resistance.
STANDARDS AND CERTIFICATIONS FOR PROTECTIVE VESTS
Modern ballistic vests and body armour systems are tested according to recognised national and international standards. These standards define ballistic resistance, stab protection, testing procedures and protection levels.
VPAM STANDARD
For ballistic vests in Europe, the primary standard is VPAM BSW. It defines test procedures, shot patterns, projectile velocities and additional requirements such as stab resistance or multiple-hit capability.
Protection classes range from VPAM 1 to VPAM 14, allowing systems to be selected according to operational threat levels.
Commonly used classes include:
- VPAM 3
- VPAM 6
- VPAM 7
- VPAM 9
VPAM is recognised as an important benchmark for modern ballistic vests and body armour systems across Europe.
NIJ STANDARD
The NIJ Standard (National Institute of Justice, USA) is one of the most recognised references for ballistic body armour and stab protection worldwide.
The current version NIJ 0101.07 includes updated threat levels and modernised testing procedures.
NIJ 0115.00 defines stab protection requirements and specifies testing against knives, blades and pointed objects.
It includes three protection levels (Level 1–3) and is widely used as a reference for stab-resistant inserts.
TECHNICAL GUIDELINES (TR)
The German Technical Guidelines (TR) define requirements for ballistic and stab-resistant body armour and remain an important benchmark for official procurement.
The current TR for ballistic vests distinguishes the following protection classes:
| Protection Class | Description |
|---|---|
| Class L | Protection against common handguns |
| Class 1 | Protection against submachine guns |
| Class 2 | Protection against all handguns |
| Class 3 | Protection against standard rifle ammunition |
| Class 4 | Protection against armour-piercing rifle ammunition |
Modern procurement increasingly also considers VPAM standards due to updated testing methods and differentiated protection classes.
HOSDB / CAST STANDARD (UK)
The HOSDB body armour standard (now CAST – Centre for Applied Science and Technology) defines requirements for ballistic protection as well as stab and cut resistance for UK police use.
It includes testing for:
- Ballistic protection
- Knife attack resistance
- Stab resistance against pointed objects
This standard remains an important reference for law enforcement body armour systems.
